Guitar Teachers

RON BUTZU has been teaching bass and guitar with us at
Cameron’s since January 2005. He has over 20 years of
playing experience with the electric bass, performing in a
wide array of venues including functions, weddings, clubs
and bars throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area. In
teaching the electric bass, Ron encourages his students to
experiment with a wide variety of styles - including classical,
jazz and funk - as well as the playing styles of Victor Wooten,
Jaco Pastorius, Geddy Lee, and many others. Along with
another Cameron's instructor, Marc Michaud, Ron conducts
occasional student jam sessions for his students, giving
them the valuable opportunity to play with professional
musicians. Additionally, Ron and Marc have played together
in the classical guitar duet, Two Guitars, since 1997 –
performing at weddings, parties, Christenings, etc. Ron
earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology & Education
from the University of Michigan-Dearborn (1993).
Matt Drozdowski has studied with guitar teacher Scott
Scrhoem. He hasperformed professionally for over 8 years
and has been teaching for the last 5 years. His playing and
teaching styles include classical, jazz, blues, and
contemporary/rock and roll. His teaching style emphasizes
technique and reading music. Mr. Drozdowski also teaches
piano at Cameron's.
MARC MICHAUD is a classically trained guitarist that
performs both as a soloist and for ensemble in a wide
variety of styles. He graduated in 1996 from Schoolcraft
college with an Associate's degree in Music performance,
and then went on to receive his Bachelors degree in Guitar
performance from Wayne State University in 2004. Marc has
been teaching for Cameron's since 1998, and teaches a
vast array of styles ranging from classical, jazz, rock and
blues. He, along with fellow teacher Ron Butzu, host a
special student “jam” session 3 to 4 times a year where his
electric guitar and bass students can participate in a live
rehearsal and performance with professional musicians.
Students will get a chance to play in front of people as well
as listen to themselves afterwards as each session is
recorded onto CD. Many of Marc’s classical guitar students
have went on to study further at the collegiate level, some
achieving scholarships, and most becoming full time
professional musicians. Performing for hire, Marc chooses
to cater to the needs of each performance rather than only
rely upon current and standard repertoire. In addition to
playing solo, he is one half of the duo“Two Guitars” along
with fellow guitarist Ron Butzu, specializing in Classical and
Jazz styles for ceremonial/formal functions. Marc is also
lead guitarist and vocalist for the popular Rock band “Pan
Fried Mojo”. Marc lives in Livonia with his wife and three year
old son.
Brian Lima earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music with a
concentration in jazz studies from Wayne State University.
Previously he earned both an Associate of Arts Degree and
a Music Foundation Certificate from Schoolcraft College with
classical guitar as his main instrument. He has taught all
styles of guitar since 2003 and has played in various local
bands since 1999.
Steve Thompson has taught guitar in the Detroit area for
over thirty years. He has also taught group lessons for
Farmington Community Center and Northville Public
Schools. Steve studied guitar with Jo Fava at Wayne State
Universtiy, Nelson Amos at EMU and Jack Moncrieff at
Schoolcraft College. He went on to earn an Associates
Degree at Schoolcraft College and a Bachelors Degree at
Madonna University. Steve has performed publicly at clubs,
wedding receptions and private parties as lead guitarist,
lead vocalist and group manager. He has produced two
CDs and is currently planning the release of future CDs of
his own compositions in Classic/New Age and Country
styles. He teaches many styles but specializes in finger-
style techniques and classic guitar. He emphasizes note
reading and music theory but also teaches less formal
methods as tablature and transcribing music from CDs.
He teaches beginning to intermediate in all styles including
rock and beginning to advanced in classical.
